Crepey skin has an appearance of crinkled, crepe-like texture like elephant skin. It’s the body’s response to low levels of collagen-proteins and elastin that allow the skin to contract and stretch. Everybody has crepey skin as can be seen on the knee or elbow. Otherwise, crepey skin starts to develop as you age, if don’t drink enough water, and more.

The skin becomes drier, thinner, and less elastic. Also, crepey skin can appear naturally all over your body, such as the neck, chest, and under the eyes.

The Causes of Crepey Skin

In addition to aging causing crepey skin, other causes include drastic weight fluctuations, sun exposure, cigarette smoke, habitual muscle movement, side-sleeping, gravity, and a diet high in sugar. The body becomes dehydrated with excess sun exposure, cigarette smoke, and having a diet high in sugar. When it comes to smoking cigarettes, heart disease, oral cancer, and lung cancer can develop which also causes damaging effects on the skin. Also, losing weight rapidly and weight fluctuations can cause a loss of collagen.

Treating and Repairing Crepey Skin

It’s already established that many issues causing crepey skin are due to dehydration. Thus, drinking plenty of water is required. Other key things to do to treat and repair crepey skin include: Slowly lose weight, getting less sun exposure, eating a balanced, healthy diet, getting all the required minerals and vitamins, and applying creams and pads.

A balanced diet includes lean protein, vegetables, fruit, and healthy fat. You should also drink a minimum of eight cups of water daily. Vitamin C, vitamin E, aloe vera, avocado oil, and rosehip oil are all good for the skin.

When it comes to creams, wrinkle-fighting creams have very effective ingredients, including Stevioside, vitamin C matrix, shea butter, liquorice root, aloe, sunflower seed oil, sesame oil, vitamin E, coconut oil, and white, black, and green tea. Lastly, silicone patches are the pads that are very effective even more than creams.

The Benefits of Drinking Water

In addition to preventing/repairing crepey skin, drinking plenty of water is beneficial in other ways. Even some celebrities vouch that drinking plenty of water has helped them maintain their youthful appearance. Jennifer Aniston is one of these celebrities. Also, Gabriel Union started drinking plenty of water since she was in her mid-30s.

Skin is made of 64 per cent water, so it only makes sense that drinking tons of water are very important. Even though there is little research that proves that drinking lots of water is a myth or can be used as a skin treatment, some dermatologists have verified the importance of drinking plenty of water.

They stated that doing this will prevent/reduce acne breakouts, minimize the appearance of wrinkles, promote skin elasticity, clear your skin complexion, and more. However, topical moisturizers should still be used in addition to hydrating your skin. And with skin being an organ and made up of cells which are made partly of water, drinking plenty of water is important for overall good health in excretion, absorption, circulation, and digestion.

Other Ways to Apply Water to the Skin

In addition to drinking plenty of water, there are other ways to apply water that is beneficial to your skin, which includes the following:

  • No later than two minutes of leaving the shower or bath, apply hydrating moisturizer
  • Apply a product consisting a hyaluronic acid before applying the moisturizer

Conclusion

With preventing crepey skin and wrinkles to ensuring your body functions are maintained, drinking plenty of water is crucial. And at least eight glasses of water should be drunk everyday.
